Industry survey names functionality as the key to ERP implementations The Aberdeen survey has long been the gauge that ERP vendors use to plan their business strategies for the coming year. It canvasses nearly 900 small to medium sized companies to get a read on upgrades, extensions and new implementations. In this way it is able to produce a year on year benchmark for ERP usage. When it comes to making ERP decisions, the survey suggests that functionality is the main selling point. Though many companies also look for better integration with existing applications and data, as well as low cost, it is functionality that outstrips all of these considerations, as the report states; The single most important factor in ERP decisions comes down to functionality. Cost and ease of integration combined do not trump functionality. The report goes on to say that the pressure to reduce costs in this shaky economic situation has led to an increase in ERP speculation, with many businesses keen to get the most value for money from any ERP implementation. This means that the more functionality a system offers, the more desirable it becomes. The survey highlights modules and extensions such as; customer relationship management, enterprise asset management, buyer relationship management, and transportation management as areas not usually covered by many systems.
